Stunning, unique dish using hand pulled murrine surrounded by glacier blue glass. If you need a statement piece – this is it!
I melt glass to high temperature in an overhead kiln and pull strands of molten glass down from a hole in the kiln to form rods of glass formed of different coloured concentric rings. I chop the 7mm glass rods into pieces around 8mm long, arrange each piece standing on end in a square former and return it to the kiln. The fused square murrine centre is surrounded by strips of glacier blue glass and returned to the kiln to make the blank. It’s then put back into the kiln again to be heated and slumped into the dish form.
